All About Brick...

Physically, I'm a 6' caucasian male just under 230 lbs who just hit 40 years old.

I work in high-tech in Silicon Valley, California and I don't want to expose my hoops buddies or influence my work life with this blog, so I'm going to try to keep it anonymous - at least for now.

Let's just call me Brick - not my real name, but a nickname I call myself when I'm frustrated about my cold shooting.

Oh, and I'm a Shooter.

Now, don't think that I am that great of a shooter - but I am the best shooter in my regular pick-up games, and because of that, I embody that role 3-4 days a week.

When I play with better players ( most folks at the rec-league level, for instance ), then I end up being the 'effort guy' who sets off-the-ball screens and is vocal on defense...

My wife asked me the other day, partly tongue-in-cheek :

'Why is it so important to you that you are a shooter? Why do you talk about it so much?'.

Why indeed...

I've definitely been thinking about it, and mainly it's that I don't possess any natural talent for hoops whatsoever – I am not quick, not that tall, don't know how to use my size ( more on that later ), but yet I can sink 20-footers in rapid succession from time to time - and I find it exhilarating and somewhat amazing.

Despite my medium-to-long-range I am also the guy who can go inexplicably cold from layup territory, frustrating myself and my team.

I am also a reformed hook shooter. My only shot when I was young was a looping sky hook, more George Mikan than Kareem, but still very effective with either hand. I have even taken and made 3-point hooks.

Nowadays I am working on improving my shooting form, and also becoming a more complete & knowledgeable player.

Welcome to OnShooting

I'll talk about my basketball life as a shooter, and hopefully start some discussions about everything from shooting form & technique, shot types and when to take them, basketball philosophy, favorite shooters and players, etc.

Oh, and I promise not to pitch you any shooting videos or clinics along the way.
